Interview with Caitlin Davey – Miss Teen Cleveland 2020

Firstly thank you so much for taking the time to answer my questions about your pageant journey for my pageant lockdown blog. It’s lovely getting to know fellow pageant queens and more about the systems that they represent.

What made you enter pageants ?

My interest in pageants first started when I saw videos floating around YouTube but they where all mainly American and hadn’t heard of it happening in England. I then came across youtubers such as Misha Grimes and saw her journey to winning Galaxy International and thought this looks like so much fun and would push me out my comfort zone because it’s something I’ve never done before. One day I saw the add for Miss Teen Great Britain and mentioned it to my mam so she then entered me in it without me knowing, little did I know it would go onto semi finals and now I’ve got a place in the grand final!

What made you decide to compete in Miss Teen Great Britain ?

I saw that Miss Teen Great Britain consists of 2 days with the beauty queen challenge day and pyjama party which seems like so much fun so I obviously wanted to participate. It is also aimed at teens and you don’t have to have any experience whatsoever which is absolutely perfect for my first pageant. I’m excited to meet all the girl’s and have the best 2 days!

What’s your pageant platform and why ?

My platform is helping people boost their self esteem and have more self belief. It is mainly aimed at teens and younger people going through secondary school and college because from experience I know it is one of the best time’s of your life but also one of the toughest and most challenging. I want to help people who experience bullying, negative comments and any hate to know that they are not alone and they can get through this.

What’s your dream title ?

At the moment my dream title is of course Miss Teen Great Britain and to achieve this would be an absolute dream. In the future I may compete in other systems such as Galaxy U.K. as they have a swim wear round which is something I would love to experience. Then of course there is always the dream goal of competing in Miss Universe.

If you were to win Miss Teen Great Britain what would it mean to you and what would you do during your reign ?

To win Miss Teen Great Britain would mean that I can push myself further and achieve goals I never ever thought of being able to achieve. It would really show you can achieve whatever you want if you just push yourself and believe you can do it. In my reign I would really like to build a bigger platform to impact more people and any girls competing in other pageants or thinking of competing in Miss Teen Great Britain themselves. Finally I would continue fundraising, getting involved in different charities and volunteer.

What have you been doing in the run up to the final of Miss Teen Great Britain?

So far I have been getting to know all the pageant girls ready for October, who are some of the most amazing people! I have also been participating in online campaigns and raising awareness for different charities as we can’t go out and do appearances.

How has the lockdown due to COVID19 effected your pageant journey ?

So far it has meant I haven’t been able to go out and donate to the charities I wanted to but I’ve been doing online events to have the biggest impact I can. I also haven’t been able to meet up or attend and fellow contestants events but it will mean it will be even bigger and better when I can.

What makes a good pageant role model ?

Pageants are not all about beauty and looks or trying to look the best you can on Instagram. A pageant role model is someone that genuinely wants to help their community and use their title for good instead of just wanting to look pretty. They will try and have the biggest impact they can on both younger and older people spreading positivity and love.

What round are you most looking forward to on the night ?

I am most looking forward to the fashion wear round as I have some ideas of outfits I would like. It is a way to show your sass and look confident while doing so.
