Interview with Tasharn Sanganoo – Miss Universe GB and Miss Caribbean U.K. Finalist

Firstly thank you so much for taking the time to answer my questions about your pageant journey for my pageant lockdown blog, it’s lovely getting to know fellow pageant queens and more about the systems that they represent.

What made you enter pageants?

I’ve always wanted to enter pageants from a young age from when I was watching Toddlers and Tiara’s with my Mum. As I am; a drama and theatre student and DJ being on stage and performing infront of an audience is something I love to and pageants are a similar experience.

Can you tell us about your journey so far ?

I have competed in Miss Universe GB before and that was one of the best experiences of my life. Thoroughly loved the whole process from meeting all the lovely girls, prepping and competing on stage. My journey for this pageant included keeping fit by healthy eating and exercising, raising money for my platform and other charities and just enjoying the whole experience.

What made you decide to compete in your current systems ?

As I competed in Miss Universe GB before and loved it, it was definitely something that I wanted to do again. As well as that, I got the ‘Pageant fever’ to compete in other pageants also. When I came across Miss Caribbean and watched the show in 2019, I knew that I would enjoy this pageant too.

What the best thing that pageants have taught you ?

Pageants taught me to be comfortable in my own skin and love me for who I am. It taught me to be confident and to always inspire young women to the best they can be. It taught me to empower women more than I do already and love myself.

What’s your pageant platform and why ?

My pageant platform is domestic violence in women, as someone close to me had gone through this I wanted to spread awareness and help as much as I can. Domestic violence is something that is very important to me to support due to so many women suffering this and not knowing how to get out of it and it is distressing for me to know that many women go through this and how it has become worse during the Covid 19 pandemic.

What’s your dream title ?

Miss Caribbean UK & Miss Universe 2020

If you were to win what would it mean to you ?

If I was to win both the pageants I am in I’d be over the moon, I’d be so happy and honoured to represent St Lucia and Great Britain. It would honestly mean the world to me to win both the pageants and be a role model to all women out there and inspire them to be the best they can be

What have you been doing in the run up to your pageant finals ?

I have been focusing on creating awareness as much as I can to the lead up to the final, making sure I am eating right and keeping myself fit and healthy. I have just been carrying on from what I have been doing last year from when I competed in Miss Universe GB.

How has the lockdown due to COVID19 effected your pageant journey ?

Due to the covid 19 situation I haven’t been able to prep as much as I can. It has been a challenge as I am studying in university at the moment (completing my third year) so I have had a lot to do.

What makes a good pageant role model ?

A good role model is someone who can carry themselves well and someone who people look up to and aspire to be. It is someone who is approachable and always have a positive manner. It is someone who is calm, and confident in themselves and want others to achieve their best

What’s your favourite pageant round ?

My favourite pageant round is the swimwear round as it gives me a chance to be comfortable in my own skin whilst walking on the stage and love my body. It enables me to walk on stage without anyone looking at me provocatively but instead look at me and think that I’m a confident person to do so

How do you deal with pageant nerves ?

I deal with pageant nerves by not thinking about the audience members, I picture when I’m by myself in my room practicing. As I’m a theatre student and DJ I’m use to having all eyes on me whilst being on stage or in the dj booth.
