Volunteers Week Interview with Adrianne Robinson Miss Inspiration Ambassador UK 2021

Why Did You Start Volunteering?
I start volunteering aged 15 in my local Cancer Research UK charity shop to complete the service section of my Duke Of Edinburgh Award. This gave me valuable transferable skills such as communication, time management, team work and learned all about retail. I stayed there for 11 years gained my 10 year service badge with now sits on my sash with pride. I chose Cancer Research in particular as I have had a lot of people affected so it meant something to me. I have also volunteered for the YMCA winter Night shelter and Burton Hope Outreach Team to help the homeless. This is just to name a few. I have made friendships along the way and joined in campaigns and fundraisers races such as the Race for life and YMCA Sleep-out which I found out through volunteering. It has been and still makes me feel happy, good, passionate and belong when giving my time.
What do you volunteer for?
I currently volunteer as a NHS responder which I signed up during Covid-19 to help those in crisis during the pandemic. I am a well-being champion in the NHS to help individuals with their mental health. I also keep my eye out for micro volunteering projects which are usually one off and can be completed from the comfort of your home so you can still make a difference from anywhere.
What are your Future Plans?
I am currently happy continuing the volunteering I am doing as mentioned above. My future plans would be to assist more in areas that are close to me such as mental health, learning difficulties such as Dyslexia and Dyspraxia and visual impaired which I have myself. I will continue and hope to progress further with my project Fiercefootforwardx which is all about volunteering, confidence and making time for you it has had a good start and hope to continue. There is a podcast available now too. This is my pageant platform so I am promoting the benefits of giving time and educating others as well as volunteer myself.
Thank you for reading.
